A Word from Josh: As I have explained before, we don't play wedding receptions very often. This was only our third such event in the band's 17 year history. But it's not for a lack of interested parties, we get asked about playing weddings all the time. But we're not a traditional wedding band nor do we have any interest in contorting ourselves into one. They have to really want the true Pie experience without compromise and that's where most of the inquiries fade away. But today's happy couple Kelli and Bo were tenacious about hiring us and when the blushing bride special-requested that we play "When I Look Into Your Eyes" by Firehouse and "She Goes Down" by Motley Crue (as opposed to "The Chicken Dance" or "Cha Cha Slide") we knew this is a wedding reception we wouldn't mind playing at. We worked out a deal where I also played piano at the ceremony which took place earlier in the day in an outdoor setting amid beautiful rolling hills. The charming ceremony was marked by heat and humidity as well as a lot of beer to combat the heat and humidity. The reception took place in the same spot as the WISCO event that we played at last year. The stage and all the dining tables were in a large tent. Good thing too because the humid afternoon morphed into a very rainy evening. Since I had been a part of the ceremony I felt comfortable mingling with many of the guests during the dinner. Most of the other guys just hung out behind the stage waiting for showtime. The first set was met with a mixed reaction from the attendees who included children and older folks who may have wondered what they had gotten themselves into. Things normalized for the second set as the true party people stuck around and started to let loose. This included Kelli's young son Jordan whose antics threatened to steal the show. The tone of the party was set all along by the Bride and Groom themselves who really went all out on the dance floor proving once again why they are the type of couple that should totally have Cherry Pie play at their wedding. Thanks for having us. -Josh Were you at this show? Would you like to comment on it? : "" |
